The Genesis Centre is Memorial University’s business incubator for technology-based ventures with high-growth potential. Our goal is to help entrepreneurs commercialize their ideas and to build successful companies in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The Genesis Centre offers a variety of programs and services to assist start-ups through all stages of technology development – from pre-incubation and business model development, to investor readiness. We connect start-up clients with top mentors and advisors, along with marketing, funding, technical resources and work space to help them succeed. Start-ups must apply to be accepted into the Genesis Centre’s Business Incubation Program. Once accepted into the Genesis Centre, start-ups may stay for up to 3 years, developing their technology and building their business.
The Evolution program is for early stage start-ups and candidates who want to apply to the Genesis Centre to become a client. It’s a 5-week intensive workshop to help entrepreneurs identify their markets and validate their idea. At the end of the 5 weeks, entrepreneurs have an opportunity to promote their venture to an industry panel during a formal Pitch Night.
Genesis alumni are among the leading start-ups in Atlantic Canada and include, Verafin, Rutter Technologies, Avalon Microelectronics (acquired by Altera), Solace Power, SubC Imaging, EMSAT, ClearRisk, Genoa Design and Virtual MarineTechnology.
