$1M Announced for Fund to Employ Persons with Disabilities
Posted Tuesday, December 02, 2014
Senator Fabian Manning says that persons with disabilities have proven themselves time and time again, and he hopes doors continue to open for them, thanks to funding from the federal government. Manning was at Easter Seals in St. John's on November 28 to announce almost $1-million in funding through the Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities and the Skills Link program. It'll be split between Easter Seals NL, the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work, and the St. Barbe Development Association.
Manning says disabled workers offer a lot to businesses, but that can sometimes be lost on employers.
He says employers can often be so busy trying to run day to day operations, that the benefit can be overlooked. He says this funding should help disabled people to learn valuable skills, which in the end benefits employers and participants alike.
