International Maritime Authority DNV-GL Re-Certifies VMT Lifeboat Simulators

St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada- Virtual Marine Technology (VMT) is pleased to announce that DNV-GL has re-certified the company's Lifeboat Simulator Systems. This certification applies to VMT's single fall and twin fall davit and freefall lifeboat simulator systems (SurvivalQuest). VMT's lifeboat simulators are the only commercially available lifeboat simulators globally.

DNV-GL is the leading authority in the certification of maritime simulator systems globally, with a focus on safety and sustainability. The purpose of the standards for Certification of Maritime Simulators is to verify that the simulator meets a certain level of physical and behavioural realism. Such standards ensure quality by creating minimum criteria for maritime training programs such as lifeboat coxswain training and refresher training programs.

Ruud de Bruin, Seaskill™ Service Manager with DNV-GL, visited VMT's headquarters in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada, to test the lifeboat simulator systems. "The SurvivalQuest lifeboat simulator provides a valuable addition to traditional training" he said. "The virtual environment linked to modeled behaviour of a survival craft allows for virtual launches in your exact operational area. Abandonment procedures and communication as well as clearing the legs or risers of an offshore installation, facing an expected seastate, wind and current upon water entry, can normally not be practiced."

VMT is looking forward to continuing its work with oil and gas operators and contractors, as well as maritime training providers and other regulatory bodies to provide the most effective simulated training experience for offshore lifeboat operators.
