Open Government Initiative Launched
Posted Friday, March 21, 2014
What is an Open Government?
An Open Government is one that is guided by the principles of transparency, accountability, participation and collaboration.
Transparency means providing information and data so that you can have access to Government information that matters to you. Increasing access to information and data helps residents provide more informed input to better influence public policy decision-making. This may also inspire innovation and benefit private sector business.
Accountability means acknowledging and assuming responsibility for the impacts of Government policies, decisions and actions through open dialogue and transparent reporting.
Participation means valuing the knowledge and input of residents and stakeholders while providing meaningful opportunities for you to share your input and for us to provide you with feedback in a timely manner.
Collaboration means working together to achieve shared goals. It means sharing knowledge and resources, addressing issues, building consensus and identifying potential solutions among partners, organizations, and communities.
- Is there information collected or developed by government that you are interested in? Should more information be made public?
- Can you benefit from increased access to government data if it is available for free and easy to access, use and reuse for any purpose?
- Are you interested in becoming more engaged with Government and in influencing Government decisions that affect you?
- Do you have ideas about how government functioning and decision-making can be improved?
If your response to any of these questions is "yes" we would like to hear from you as we develop and implement Newfoundland and Labrador's Open Government Initiative.
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador understands and values the critical role of residents, stakeholders and employees in shaping government policies, programs and services. We will tap into the wealth of knowledge, expertise and creativity that exists in our province to develop and implement our Open Government Initiative.
