Five Days of Ideas and Inspiration Aimed at Accelerating Innovation
St. John's, NL - May 4, 2016 - The third annual Innovation Week will take place in St. John's from May 9-13. The action-packed week features events, workshops and discussions with industry experts who share a common goal of finding new solutions and approaches to bring innovative ideas to market. With a theme of "Accelerating Innovation," Innovation Week brings together startups, youth, business, and public partners in a creative forum to connect and exchange ideas that will contribute to the growth of the provincial economy.
Over five days, 16 partner organizations will roll out 17 events to kick-start creative thinking and collaboration in key sectors, including information technology, ocean technology, manufacturing and clean technology. The complete event schedule is available at www.innovationweek.ca.
New to this year's Innovation Week, and now sold out,TEDxYouth@StJohnsis the first youth-focused TEDx event in the province. Designed for 12 to 18-year-olds, the event is poised to inspire curiosity, ignite new ideas and empower young leaders. Additionally, Export Development Canada's (EDC)Vice-President and Chief Economist, Peter Hall, will be speaking about the global economy at the "Let's Talk Exports" conference hosted by the Newfoundland and Labrador Environmental Industry Association (NEIA) on Monday, May 9.
The Newfoundland and Labrador division of the Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters will featureBob McDonaldfrom CBC's Quirks & Quarks andDr. Ian Potter, Vice-President of Engineering with the National Research Council, at their "Demystifying Technology and Innovation" conference on Tuesday, May 10. Midway through the week, NATI's Knowledge Summit will showcase leaders in the technology sector including futurist,Jim Bottomley,and former Dragons' Den Advisor,Dr. Sean Wise.
The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) is contributing $38,279 to support the third annual Innovation Week.

A new app is available to stay up-to-date on news and events during Innovation Week. The free app is available on iOS and Android in the App Store as IWNL. The app was built by the College of the North Atlantic.
